‘Gnome’ More Waiting

A short walk through Red Deer’s downtown will have you feeling the excitement and energy that comes with the Canada Winter Games. Joining in the excitement are many of Red Deer’s downtown businesses who have shown their support by painting storefronts and staging displays to welcome Red Deerians, athletes, and visitors from around Canada.

While strolling Little Gaetz, Monica Andersen, and her daughter Morgan, were excited to see the decorations that adorned the Great Strides storefront. Stopping to take a photo with the podium of gnomes was a highlight of the morning for 6-year-old Morgan. Monica on the other hand, is excited to take it all in, “I’m excited for all of it - for the concerts, the atmosphere and the sporting events too. I used to compete in biathlon and I hope to watch it, and as many other sports as I can.”

Monica, like many others, is ready to welcome Canada’s top young athletes and enjoy the community events that come along with the Games. Throughout the next two weeks, Little Gaetz will be home to a free downtown festival, a showcase of community spirit. Red Deer is ready. This is our moment.
