Mounties participate in traditional Round Dance

June 22, 2020

Red Deer RCMP Inspector Holly Glassford and several officers from the Red Deer detachment joined local First Nations members for a traditional Round Dance in Coronation Park on Sunday.

The event was organized by the Red Deer Native Friendship Society as part of National Indigenous People’s Day celebrations.

The celebration each June 21 recognizes the heritage, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Red Deer RCMP is proud to work hand-in-hand with local Indigenous community members and elders, to drive positive change and make our city a leader in cultural acceptance and inclusiveness.

We encourage all residents to learn, listen and seek to understand the significant role our Indigenous friends and neighbours played – and continue to play in our city and country’s history. More information and resources are available at the Red Deer Native Friendship Society and Red Deer Urban Aboriginal Voices Society websites.

Last week, Alberta RCMP launched a reconciliation strategy that can be read here: https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/news/2020/alberta-rcmp-launch-reconciliation-strategy
