Small Business week: Shop where your heart is!

October 21, 2021

This week is the 42nd annual BDC Small Business Week, so let’s share some extra love with our local Red Deer businesses.

With small businesses making up 98 per cent of all businesses in Alberta, it’s never been more important to celebrate our local entrepreneurs. Small businesses bring variety, uniqueness and charm to our beautiful city. You can also be rewarded by contributing to the local economy by shopping in local stores, boutiques and restaurants. In fact, for every $100 spent, $63 gets funnelled back into the local economy. One thing is for sure; the COVID-19 pandemic has opened our eyes to the importance of small businesses and shown us the impact they can have on our community, our economy, and our lives.

It’s no secret that the past 20 months have been extremely exhausting for small businesses. From the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, successive lockdowns, and labour shortages, small businesses have had to persevere through many unprecedented challenges to keep their businesses alive. The continued support from the community is one of the main reason they are still standing today. Shopping where your heart is is beneficial for all.

This week and until the end of the year, we invite you to partake in the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce #LoveLocalRD initiative. Small businesses have helped us through the hardships of the pandemic and it is time to return the favour. Shopping local is easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Spot the bright pink “Love Local” stickers provided by the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce.
  2. Shop your favourite small businesses!
  3. Support and stimulate the local economy.
